An advanced healthcare system

The system is an interesting mix of public and private facilities. You'll have plenty of scope to learn about different specialisms and job roles.
Island hopping opportunities
A short distance from the mainland is Saona Island, a tropical nature reserve and part of the East National Park. Well known for its beautiful beaches, the island is a popular location with filmmakers (the famous Bounty adverts were shot there) and travellers alike. If you’re into snorkelling, visit the nearby Catalina Island and take advantage of the its crystal clear waters and abundant coral reefs.
Explore art & architecture
Don’t miss a trip to the nearby Altos de Chavon – an incredible 15th century Mediterranean-style village, built by Italian architect Roberto Copa in 1976. The village is home to numerous art shops and cafes, an archaeological museum, and a famous amphitheatre at which Duran Duran, Alicia Keys and Elton John have performed.
