Program Description

If you are an aspiring health professional in high school or college, join Gap Medics for a short-term hospital shadowing internship in Africa! Africa is a place where you will be immersed in fascinating tribal culture as you observe modern medicine in the wards and operating rooms. Program participants will have the opportunity to shadow experienced healthcare professionals and to see how medical staff work within a complex and interesting environment which mirrors the land and people. Our destination in Africa offer clinical experience in our partner hospitals, beautiful scenery, and unique opportunities for personal development and networking. Programs include pre-medical, pre-nursing, pre-physician assistant, pre-dental, and pre-midwife.

Highlights

In addition to our many on-site activities, like barbecues and volleyball games, and the organized Safari Weekend package, students are welcome to explore their surroundings during their free time in the evenings and on weekends. While on a Gap Medics program, students will stay in our exclusive houses. Each house has beautiful grounds and a welcoming atmosphere that provides for a sociable base from which students can learn and explore. During our most popular periods, each destination accommodates over 60 students per week.

Qualifications

Gap Medics welcomes students aged 16 and over, and students are eligible to join up until their first year of clinical study. Our programs are excellent for current and prospective pre-health students.

What`s Included

Weekly features:
23+ hours hospital shadowing experience, 3x Global Health Tutorials, dedicated mentor in healthcare, and a unique department/hospital placement.
*Global Health Tutorials address the ethical and practical dilemmas faced by health professionals at each destination.

Core specialties:
Surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, and OB/GYN.
*Additional departments available depending upon destination.

Also included:
Exclusive accommodations, in-house catering, comprehensive pre-departure services, customized online trip planner, in-country support, and arrival airport transfer.

Cost:
Students pay a registration fee of $450 in order to reserve their spaces and gain access to our pre-departure services. The remaining balance (shown next) is due 90 days before their date of travel: $1140 for one week, $1840 for two weeks, $2790 for three weeks, $3740 for four weeks, additional weeks available for $950 each.
