Dharamsala Community Project, India
Program Description
As a volunteer in India, you will be able to assist with a wide variety of service projects in the local community of Dharamsala. These projects include:
- Teaching Projects - Teaching English to women and children
- IT Teaching - Instructing basic IT skills and technology skills
- Childcare Projects - Caring for infants and children, including street children
- Afterschool programmes/Summer camps - Help local teachers and staff with afterschool courses and summer camps
- Renovating local institutions and spaces – Help with the renovation of local buildings in order to create clean, bright learning spaces
- Community Health - Conduct community health visits/community health awareness training
- Women's Empowerment - Work towards improving women's rights in the community (including job skills training)
Volunteers will need to work about 6 hours each day from Monday to Friday. Volunteers will have a lot of free time to go around the local area and see all the many sights. Volunteers can also participate in free or very low-cost activities and excursions such as Henna painting, cooking classes, Hindi classes, visiting temples, tea gardens, and even treks.
Volunteers can also opt to participate in longer excursions (at an extra cost) such as a two-day tour of the Taj Mahal, a guided Himalayan trek, an adventure trip to Manali, and a two day tour of the state of Punjab including a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Wagah border ceremony as well as the Jallianwala Bagh Gardens.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to be immeresed in Indian culture and to learn about the local community. Volunteers will also experience many different aspects of Indian society and have the chance to see some spectacular sights and engage in fun activities.Qualifications
Volunteers should be aged 18 years and older and speak English.All nationalities are welcome.
Volunteers joining the health education project should ideally have some previous experience, but for other projects volunteers do not need any specific skills or qualifications.
Any skills you do have will of course be useful for the projects.

What`s Included
The costs include: pick up at Delhi airport, one night stay at a hotel in Delhi and transfer to Dharamsala, on site transportation (to and from work areas), all meals at the volunteer house (breakfast, lunch and dinner- cooked by a staff chef), all accommodation, materials required for volunteer work, e.g. teaching supplies, evening yoga classes and local sightseeing.Other Programs From The Same Provider
