Program Description
Many people believe that they will be able to tame a wild horse themselves, which is a mistake. These horses then end up in neglectful and abusive homes. You will be volunteering with an organization that saves wild Mustang horses that would have been put to death. These horses (who are often in terrible shape before reaching this Centre), are nursed back to health and then trained with positive reinforcement and love to become adoptable.
Founded over 12 years ago, this Centre protects mustangs that are taken from the wild. After these mustangs are captured, they are placed in holding pens where they await adoption. Currently there are over 40,000 horses awaiting adoption. The ones that don’t get adopted are killed.
This is a helpful and fun project that involves socializing horses as you help to rehabilitate them.
The purpose of this volunteer project is to spend time with these traumatised horses so that they learn that there are good, caring people. This is crucial for them to be adopted into safe and nurturing homes.
