Ecuador PreMed/PreNurse Program

Overall rating: 10 based on 1 reviews

Program Description

We invite public health, nursing, and medical undergraduate students to be a part of this project on healthcare in Quito.

Poverty-stricken children and families are given health care at this local facility and we focus on proving rehabilitation therapies for children with special needs and caring for chronic diseases and acute illnesses. There are rehabilitation services for children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome as well as a daycare center for toddlers and babies. We also provide health care checks and treatment.

As a volunteer, your duties include supporting the staff with general medicine checkups, providing early stimulation techniques, language instruction, physical therapy support, engaging the children in games geared towards rehabilitation, and assisting with administrative needs.

You must be proficient in Spanish for this volunteer project, though we do provide Spanish lessons. Combine this project with our Language and Cultural Immersion.

    Review this program
I lived with a very nice family who had multiple dwellings right next to each other. I lived in a house with 3 other ABV volunteers and one of her sons. There were other volunteers from Germany and USA. The meals were fantastic and I felt safe the whole time I was there. I was there only a week, but wish I could have stayed longer. Both my accommodations and my medical program were the perfect fit for me. I ended up using Uber, which was faster than the bus, and cheaper than taxis!
