Program Description

As a volunteer with this programme, you will be placed in southeast Madagascar on the edges of some of the last strands of littoral forest. Our Conservation Programme is on a campsite located in a tight-knit community that features a lot of biodiversity that is endangered. You will combine hands-on conservation fieldwork on endangered species including lemurs, reptiles and amphibians, with community initiatives and environmental education. You will be immersed in the diverse habitats of Madagascar during your 10 weeks (can be negotiated for shorter periods of time). Learn how to work with real conservation efforts as you collaborate with the local community. This teamwork is essential to ensuring the continuation of this environment as you educate and run local outreach initiatives. The programme runs in blocks of 2 weeks (2, 4, 6, 8, 10).

Highlights

You will have the opportunity to combine community initiatives with valuable research on endangered flora and fauna. You will be located in a beautiful area that is coastal and bounded by the last of the littoral forest. This project gives volunteers the opportunity to initiate and engage in useful research. You will learn about the efforts of conservation work and the importance of community-led development. Gain an in-depth understanding about how poverty-stricken communities face obstacles in conservation. Give back to the local Malagasy community and do your part to protect the valuable endangered species.
