Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

The Finca is formed by 32 Mayan families, who fought together in the civil war as guerrillas, coming up for the Mayan people. After the war, they achieved to obtain Finca Santa Anita, and form an entire community with two schools, a daycare center, library, pharmacy, and ecotourism project. But the coffee harvest makes up the main activity of this special community.

Volunteers tasks:
- You can help everywhere you want such as working in the communal land in the mornings or work with families on their own plots.
- Activities concerning the coffee harvest:
Jan - Feb: prepare the field and the trees to obtain firewood
March - April: collect the firewood
May - June: some families start to plant the new coffee trees
Sep-Dec: coffee harvest and processing.
- In the afternoons there are other activities, such as teaching English at the schools, run the children´s library or help your host family with random duties.

Highlights

In this project, you will work from 8 AM to 1 PM, afternoons are more informal and flexible, so it's perfect to combine your volunteering with Spanish lessons in the afternoons, which is a nice way to improve your Spanish but also learn about the Guatemalan culture.

Qualifications

A beginner Spanish level is helpful (enough to understand the instructions).
To improve your Spanish, we suggest online language lessons with a private Guatemalan teacher.
