Home for Girls - Kilinochchi
Program Description
In 1950, the Children Home was established in Kilinochchi, the center of Northern Sri Lanka. This Children Home created an orphanage to benefit the local community and to care for 117 boys and 40 girls who were adversely affected by war and the aftermath of the tsunami. The Children Home ensures that these children have all the fundamentals of shelter, food, and clothing. Consider donating your time and effort to caring for these disadvantaged children.
The orphanage sits on about 50 acres of land. There are three different groups: boys, girls, and kids. Each go to school daily and many of the expenses are paid for through donations, INGOs and NGOs, as well as a couple of income-generating projects. The orphanage features dairy farming and coconut, rice paddy and vegetable cultivation. These are used for daily subsistence in the orphanage. The orphanage has also planted teak tree and kajureena trees for income-generation and to farm their own wood in order to reduce expense. The older children are provided with vocational training including sewing, tailoring, beauty school, envelope making and ICT training. There are usually around 28 teachers and 10 volunteers. They teach courses like Maths, English, Sinhalese, and other important subjects.
