Boys Town - Kilinochchi

Program Description

In 1950, the Children Home was established in Kilinochchi, a beautiful area in Northern Sri Lanka. The Children Home benefited the local community by creating an orphanage and taking in 117 boy and 40 girls. These children were tragically affected by war and the aftermath of the tsunami. War has taken a terrible toll on the region and has even hurt the Children Home, which suffered from shortages of food, clothing, and even some of the building shelter. We appreciate all help that you can provide to bring relief and aid to these children. We currently have 326 orphans, although this number fluctuates daily.

The orphanage is situated on 50 acres and has three different groups: boys, girls, and small children. All of these groups live in different areas and go to school each day. Donations by generous patrons, INGOs and NGOs help to care for our children as well as some of the local projects we have launched to generate a modest income including dairy farming and coconut, paddy and vegetable cultivation. While these donations and our own food-growing cover our subsistence, and so the orphanage has continued to launch initiatives for income like planting teak trees and kajureena trees. These will be used for wood in order to minimize expenses. We also offer vocational training such as sewing, tailoring, beauty school, envelope meaking and ICT training.

We currently have around 28 teachers and 10 volunteers who teach classes in the orphanage. They cover math, English, Sinhalese, and other important subjects.
