Program Description

Provide orphans and underprivileged children with encouragement, support, and education as you aid our team reverse the detrimental effects of poverty and disease.

The largest urban slum area in Africa is Kibera with over 1 million inhabitants. A major issue among the children and adults is HIV/AIDS as a result of poor living conditions. There are open sewers and infected water which lead to other serious diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and cholera. Many individuals eke a living out through crime and prostitution and often abuse alcohol and drugs, turn to violence, or leave their families. This project is a beam of hope in an area filled with need.

This project was developed by a group of locals who were interested in addresses obstacles faced by children in Kibera. They came together to help vulnerable children and orphans reach a higher potential physically and in terms of education. Increasing numbers of students dropped out of schools due to lack of food, no funding for school tuition, and the widespread devastation of HIV/AIDS that removed one or both parents.

Volunteer with this project to help children stay in school through support of education by running a school in the slums, providing students with proper nutrition and 2 meals a day when they would have had to find food themselves, and counseling services to improve and aid the mental health of the child. Educated children who are healthy will be able to bring Kibera out of its slum status and this will only be achieved by support this community. Please join us and make a difference!

The house has modern facilities but electricity is not always reliable in the area. The families are all very used to hosting volunteers and are very welcoming - true Kenyan hospitality!

All meals will be provided for you during your stay. Food will be local & simple meals. You may get involved in helping to prepare the meals - learn some genuine African cooking skills!
