Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

As law practice becomes increasingly global, law students and lawyers must be well-grounded in contemporary areas of international and comparative legal practice. Designed for J.D. and LL.M. students in the United States – as well as for law students, lawyers, and government officials from around the world – the Fordham-SKKU Summer Institute in International Law is an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited summer study abroad program that offers the opportunity to earn up to 6 credits over the summer through a combination of coursework in international and comparative law, and optional follow-on internship placements. No knowledge of the Korean language is required.

All participants enroll in one of three courses on offer, worth 3-credits each. The 2016 courses will run from Monday, June 20 to Sunday, July 3, 2016:

- Comparative Constitutional Law and Rights
- International Human Rights Law and Policy
- International and Comparative Internet Law

Participants also have the option to apply for follow-on internships with various legal partner organizations, including Korean multinational corporations – such as Samsung, SK and Hanwha – the Supreme and Constitutional Courts, and leading law firms and NGOs. Internships may be taken non-credit or for an additional 3 credits (6 credits in total), and will run Monday, July 4 to Friday, August 5, 2016.

Highlights

The Institute is held in downtown Seoul, a vibrant cosmopolitan city of 11 million, known for seamlessly blending stunning traditional palaces and temples with modern skyscrapers, museums and playhouses. Seoul's famous nightlife is more vibrant than ever, with a dazzling array of restaurants, bars, sports venues and clubs for every taste, style and budget. For those more inclined to play than pay, basketball and volleyball courts, swimming pools, and soccer fields straddle the Han River coursing through the heart of the city, while outside of the city, beautiful islands and mountains offer great hiking and relaxation.

What`s Included

Courses are taught by distinguished Fordham Law faculty and other expert scholars, and entail 2 weeks of classroom instruction followed by an in-class exam. Course grades and credits count towards the Fordham JD or LLM degree and may be transferable to other schools, along with the for-credit internship, with prior approval from the student’s home institution. Internship placements are 40/hours per week for 5 weeks, and typical responsibilities include drafting and reviewing legal documents and presentations; attending and conducting client interviews and consultations; and observing court proceedings. For-credit internships are taken pass/fail and require participation in a weekly seminar.
