Program Description
The Leitner Center for International Law and Justice at Fordham Law School is pleased to announce the 2016 Summer Human Rights Institute (SHRI), a two-week certificate program that will provide a comprehensive introduction to the theory and application of international human rights law, July 18 to 29, 2016.
Designed for students and professionals from around the world, this immersive program enables individuals with limited time to gain an in-depth understanding of international human rights law and practice. Participants take part in daily lectures and workshops with Fordham Law professors, supplemented by fieldwork and discussions with members of New York’s prominent human rights community. The program also includes a field trip to the United Nations.
The Institute is open to students and professionals from around the world with an interest in international human rights law. There are no specific academic requirements to participate in this program. All program courses and activities are conducted in English, but no language assessment or scores are required. Registration is done on a rolling basis and limited to 120 participants.

A limited number of spaces are available in on-campus housing, located in the same building in which Institute classes are held. Participants are also free to make their own independent arrangements.

What`s Included
The program fee covers tuition for approximately 60 hours of instruction, course materials, lunch on weekdays and extracurricular activities. The Institute begins with a comprehensive Overview of International Human Rights Law, and then moves into in-depth examination of the following critical topics:- Business and Human Rights
- Civil and Political Rights
- Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
- Vulnerable Groups
In addition to the core Institute Faculty, the program also features guest lecturers working actively in the field of international human rights, to engage participants in up-close examination of real-world legal aspects and tools of human rights law and practice.
