Program Description
The Rural Education Institute of Mexico, Inc. is a growing NGO with the goal of establishing community centers as a place to promote lifelong learning for youth and their families so that young people can continue their education, improve their economic situation, and give back to their community. Currently, we are serving approximately 80 young people in the campo near the city of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico in two community centers. The goal of the program is to encourage students to finish high school. Data shows that young people in the campo only graduate 1 in 5 compared to those in cities like San Miguel, a short 10-15 km away.
We are looking for 1-2 interns to join our team as programming interns. The position involves one week of intense training, working with current interns to plan and carry out the programs in the campo, and on-going educational support from experienced volunteers.

Duties: Guide youth ages 8-15 in basic computer training, learning basic English reading and speaking skills, improving reading and writing in Spanish, setting personal goals, and leadership training.The Spring semester dates are January 11, 2016 to May 20, 2016. Rural Ed provides its interns with an airfare stipend, free housing, and transportation related to program duties.
