The District was carved out from the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira now (Twifo Atti-Morkwa) District on 29th July, 2012 by Legislative Instrument (L. I) 2022. The District capital is Twifo Hemang. The District is located on the western part of Central Region of Ghana and occupies a landmass of 674 square kilometers making it one of the biggest districts in the Central Region
