Education for the Children Foundation (EFTC) is a registered charity in Guatemala, UK, and the US. We run a school in Guatemala called The School of Hope. Established in 2003, we have grown steadily from helping a handful of students to educating more than 550 children and young adults and empowering the local community.
EFTC has a school in Jocotenango, Guatemala: an urban area where extreme poverty, gang crime, domestic violence and alcoholism are everyday realities. Food, healthcare, counselling and career guidance at the school remove obstacles to education and enable these students to realise their potential. The families we work with cannot afford to send their children to school but we believe education is the first step towards breaking the cycle of poverty. Without our project many of these children would be begging on the streets or working from a very young age, some as young as five. Through EFTC programmes, students are empowered to make positive choices, laying the foundations upon which they can build a brighter future for themselves and their families. |
