Working in a foreign country spruces up your CV like nothing else will. It shows that you are bold and courageous and that you like a challenge. These are all qualities that employers love to see because they are the traits that make companies thrive and grow! Besides getting great work experience, you may also learn a language or some new interesting hobbies you never thought of before. You’ll also expand your worldview and make friends around the globe.

How to find Jobs Abroad

The key to finding a job abroad that you love is to choose a country that bests fits you and your future career. Some helpful questions to ask:

1. Who are the major players in your industry and where are they headquartered, do the most of their business, or get most of their supplies from?

2. Which countries have the most job opportunities currently?

3. Do you have any family or friends who live in foreign countries?

4. Can you speak the local language of that country or have any interest in learning it?

5. Is it possible for you be hired direct from your home country or do you plan to do the job hunting after you arrive?

6. If you can be hired prior to moving, can the company reimburse plane tickets and relocation costs?

After asking yourself these questions, they should clearly point you to a select few countries. The next step before signing any long-term contract with your new employer is of course to go and visit the country you’ll be living in and have a heart to heart chat with your new boss to make sure you’ll get along. Take at least two weeks to travel around the city, talk to other expats who are living there and get all the info you need to make an educated decision.

Once you have decided and move, keep a positive attitude regardless of what your new life throws at you. It can be difficult living in a foreign country but if you can keep an open mind and be patient and flexible, you’ll greatly enjoy your time working abroad.

Jobs Abroad Tips

1. Make sure you have help getting the right kind of visa and other paperwork you need ahead of time.

2. Check to see how much help your new company can provide for you in terms of relocation advice such as the best part of town to live in or the best schools for your kids, opening up a bank account, and a handful of other questions that will need to be answered during your move.

3. If you don’t know the language of your new country, learn it. Just knowing the basics will make life a whole lot easier (and let you know when people are talking about you!)
