Program Description
A popular hobby is birding (bird watching). There are around 8% of the total species of birds in the world in Nepal. It can undoubtedly be called a hub for birding enthusiasts.
In Nepal as of 2012, there are around 900 species of birds. 1 species has been recently introduced by humans, 1 is endemic, and 30 species are threatened globally. The national parks and conservation areas protect 350-500 species of birds. During birding, you get to visit 3 different wildlife conservation areas, two of which are located in the Terai (Southern plains) region and one in the hills, of Nepal.
Dove, Bengal green pigeon, Lapwing pigeon, Sarus (Crane), Partridge, Chukar, Duck, Falcon, Eagle, Black Ibis, Egret, Cormorant, Crow, Cuckoo, Pheasant, and the stork are some of the most readily found species.

While birding you get to visit 3 different wildlife conservation areas of Nepal, namely; Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (Bhairahawa district), Chitwan National park (Chitwan district) and Shivapuri Conservation Area (Kathandu district). During spring season, you can at least witness a glimpse or two of more than 300 species of birds.If you are lucky, you can also catch the rare glimpse of Spiny Babbler (Nepali: काँडे भ्याकुर), the only bird endemic to Nepal. These tiny birds were supposed to be extinct, until an American ornithologist, Sydney Dillon Ripley, proved its existence.
