The Pioneer Project: Sustainable living, traditional craft, & outdoor leadership

Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

The Pioneer Project is a 6-10 week immersion experience for 17-24 year old students. In our program, students come to the mountains of North Carolina to live in a community of peers and immerse themselves in a sustainable lifestyle, where they will be involved with sustainable farming, caring for bees and chickens, and helping build green structures, all while taking part in cooking and eating highly nutritious, locally grown organic food. Twice a week, local artists will lead workshops in a variety of crafts such as blacksmithing, herbal medicine, pottery, soapmaking, and bookbinding where students can explore a variety of artistic interests and meet some inspirational artists. Finally, every three weeks, students will embark on 3-5 day wilderness expeditions to develop their outdoor leadership skills in backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, and mountain biking. This program is ideal for students looking to develop real skills that they can use in careers in sustainable business, outdoor education, farming, professional art, education, and any leadership positions.
