Program Description
In this conservancy you will be involved in the following:
- Counting wildlife at watering holes and keeping watch over any potential poaching activity as part of our continuing work on conservation
- Undoing wire traps or snares that are set by poachers over the tracks of animals in order to kill and capture wildlife
- Maintaining the sanctuary and improving facilities to increase this area as an important habitat for wildlife
- Assisting and giving aid on a variety of projects involving water that will help wildlife and community members
- Becoming knowledgeable about the issues involving conflict and issues between humans and wildlife from an expert on wildlife and helping to find methods of minimizing this conflict
- Tree planting
- Continuing improvements to the road to support and allow anti-poaching patrols access to all areas of the sanctuary
- Creating and implementing environmental education initiatives and workshops with the local school in the community to show students the importance of wildlife preservation
Game patrols that involve monitoring wildlife such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, lions, wild dogs, hyenas, warthogs, and buffaloes at close quarters on this private sanctuary
This type of work will continue throughout the week.
You will be transferred back to Nairobi at the end of the program.
Placements available, starting date is flexible so that you are welcome to fix your best dates.
Minimum Duration : 2 Weeks
