Program Description
OGVO is asking for volunteers to assist with a unique opportunity to work in animal care and wildlife and environmental conservation projects. Conservation Project volunteers will have the option to work on a wide range of initiatives including Mole National Park at Mole, zoo work in Kumasi, monkey sanctuary work at Boabeng Fiema, and other options. This is a great volunteer option for all people who are interested in animals and want to make a difference in environmental conservation.
Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary Volunteer Responsibilities
Around 600 brown Mona Monkeys can be found 22km north of Nkoranza at the Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary. This sanctuary also has around 250 black and white Geoffrey’s Pied Columbus Monkeys. Local belief systems prevent those who would harm monkeys and this is the only sanctuary in the area where both species can be seen in such large numbers. Many tree species, birds, and butterflies can also be found. As a volunteer, your responsibilities include teaching visitors about the fauna and flora of the local area as well as the monkey, leading informative tours, and administrative duties.
