Volunteer with children and adults in Oltenia!

Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

2 week programme with 4-10 volunteers.
Every morning volunteers work in pairs with a local volunteer translator in Family Type Homes. These Government run homes are normally 2 or 3 bedroom flats where between 4-8 children live. The majority of the children have some form of intellectual and/or physical disability and many show signs of Instituitionalised Autism due to their upbringing. Volunteers use play, group and individual activities and we teach a technique called Intensive Interaction with the children to provide stimulation and to contribute to their development.
Volunteers will also visit a local adult institution based in Cezieni village twice a week. Here volunteers can do group activities and use sensory materials with the adults.
The project is very challenging but it is so fun and rewarding and you can instantly tell you are making a difference to other people's lives.

Creating fantastic bonds with children and adults you work with and having very rewarding interactions.
Making a difference to many people's lives - just by providing some much needed love and attention to those in need.
Making friends with local volunteers and in country Project Co-ordinators.
Learning about and experience different cultures.
Pick up basic Romanian language skills.
Enhance experience of working with vulnerable groups.
Gain experience of therapeutic technique called Intensive Interaction.

Relevant experience with chldren and/or adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. The more experience the better! If you apply to volunteer without sufficient relevant experience we will discuss this at interview and may make a conditional offer for a place on a trip, where you will have to gain relevant experience before the trip.
