Program Description

The quality of teaching in some of the rural schools across the world is poor due to the quality of teaching and the lack of funding from the government.
So at Mina`s dream we have teamed up with a local NGO to work side by side with them to build a project where we can improve the level of education of the children studying there. Because as in most countries across Asia its children from the poorer communities who study in government schools and if we can help them improve their prospects then there is a chance they can lift their families out of the poverty trap they were born into.
So you will be based in one of the two schools in rural Tamilnadu state on the outskirts of urban Bangalore city, in the state of Karnataka with an aim to help to help the students with spoken and written English..This will depend on your ability but you could Teach Basic English vocabulary, alphabets, computers, science, mathematics, general knowledge, etiquette/norms and manners while talking sitting moving, eating, reading, speaking, colour & shapes, animal and sounds etc. Creativity exercises like drawing, painting, music and dance etc. Promoting basic health and hygiene awareness, nutrition amongst children, especially teenagers & developing the skills of the children through playing games.

Highlights

There are many highlights to volunteering & it must start with visiting and seeing a new country, its culture and meeting its people. The experiences alone relating to this are worth the trip alone but then you must add to the list of highlights staying with a local family and seeing part of India that tourists dont see & finally its the satisfaction of achievement you leave knowing you have made a little difference to peoples lives.

Qualifications

You can join this project as long as you are fluent in English even if you dont have any necessary qualifications in teaching. But you will only be able to take part in the most basic of teaching of tasks relating to supporting the local teacher, talking with students & helping them with various queries they may have. This project is ideal if you are planning to become a teacher or have teaching experience as you will be able to participate far more with taking your own classes, working with the local teachers and sharing new ideas to improve their teaching methods.

What`s Included

For the fee you will find everything from airport pick up and drop off, accommodation at the project, three meals a day and 24 hour support while you are in India. In fact the only thing you will need extra money for is for extras like cigarettes, chocolate, etc, sightseeing, and extra tourist activities if you plan to participate in them.
