Volunteer placements in the UK with Lattitude Canada

Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

There is a broad range of placements in schools in the UK. Almost all are in private, fee-paying schools, most of which are boarding schools. Placements are mainly in preparatory schools (7-13) or secondary schools (11- 18). You could be based in a city centre, a country town or a boarding school in extensive grounds in the country. If you are in a boarding school you should expect to be involved in boarding house duties e.g. getting boarders up, supervising going to bed, helping with after school activities and homework, as well as weekend excursions.

Caring Placements:
Residential caring placements are from 6 to 12 months. Placements may be in communities of disabled or homeless people, shelters for homeless people, residential homes, and centres for the disabled, rehabilitation centres or organisations that support home carers. There is also a placement in a hospice. Volunteers will work mainly with adults. They may be expected to provide companionship, help with outings and activities, help with feeding and may be expected to deal with personal care. Necessary training will always be given.

Outdoor Education Placements:
Placements are mainly in YMCA Centres, Scout Activity Centres, or Field study centres
Volunteers will assist or lead children in group activities such as archery, abseiling, canoeing or orienteering. In the evening they will run sessions playing games, singing songs etc. Volunteers will be trained in all activities.

The UK is steeped in history and dotted with ancient buildings, castles and cathedrals. Volunteers in the UK work in schools, camps and community centres. While qualified staff are always present, fresh, energetic young volunteers are crucial in providing students, camp-goers, program participants and residents with a much-needed friend and role model.

You must be finished with high school (but not necessarily graduated) and be between the ages 17-25.
