Volunteer placements in Poland with Lattitude Canada

Program Description

All of our placements are for TEFL – Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Your role is that of an English language teaching assistant in primary, lower and higher secondary schools. Your task is to improve the comprehension, pronunciation and conversational skills of your students. Most of the teaching is in classes with students of varying ages and abilities from youngsters (usually in classes) to adults (sometimes in one-to-one tuition out of school hours, especially in Convent Schools).
Apart from the ten grammar or public schools (often with integrated classes), there are four Convent Schools run by nuns and one Institute for the Blind and Partially Sighted. Friendliness, enthusiasm and resourcefulness are essential qualities. In some placements there may also be opportunities to teach other subjects such as maths, biology, art and drama. At some schools there will be the opportunity to help with school clubs, outdoor activities and homework.

In Poland there are various types of teaching. There are some private primary and secondary schools with students who are highly motivated and have excellent English where you can improve their conversational skills and fluency. On the opposite scale are the grammar schools with various English standards and lower student motivation. Class sizes vary from 6 up to 30 in grammar schools. Sometimes volunteers are asked to do special projects, such as help with the school play etc.

Poland is a country steeped in history, blessed with stunning landscapes and offers volunteers a varied and exciting experience. Energetic, modern cities such as Warsaw offer something very different from beautiful medieval centres such as Kraków and Gdańsk. Poland is also famous for its filling and heart-warming food and drink which is served in friendly and welcoming restaurants and bars. Perfect for fuelling up for the numerous and exciting outdoor adventures available for volunteers to pursue at the weekends!

You must be finished with high school (but not necessarily graduated) and be between the ages 17-25.

You must speak English as your native tongue.
