Volunteer Placements

Program Description

Engage in an unforgettable and rewarding learning experience with local businesses and nonprofit groups! The IGK Program Director carefully matches the students’ skills with the requirements of the company or organization. A high level of professionalism is expected from participants and with strict attendance and performance standards. Every effort is made to match students with their field of choice, however some placements may require prior participant experience or training. Volunteer hours and conditions will be confirmed by the host organization after the students’ arrival in Canada and before the start of the placement. IGK staff will arrange a meeting between the student and the host
organization during the student’s English program as well as assist the student with any necessary curriculum vitae or interview preparation.

All placements are unpaid and participants are required to study a full time ESL program at International Gateway Kelowna for a minimum 4
weeks prior to the placement.

VOLUNTEER PLACEMENT LENGTH
2, 4, 8 or 12 weeks. 20-40 hours per week (Usually Monday-Friday)
FIELDS OF EMPLOYMENT
Retail Shops, Daycares, Elementary schools, Tour companies, Thrift stores, Nonprofit organizations, Community Food bank

Highlights

This program is designed for students who would like to volunteer in a Canadian company or organization in an English speaking environment. The volunteer placement is unpaid and must be combined with an equal or greater amount of full time ESL study at IGK prior to the placement. Placements are available in a variety of fields such as: Tourism, Nonprofit Organizations, Education and Sales. Volunteer Placements begin weekly for ages 16 and up.
