Program Description

We feature a wonderful volunteer experience based in Uganda that will allow you to make important changes to the lives of local children as you expand your world view. Gain firsthand knowledge of a poverty-stricken community and make a difference in the local community.

Responsibilities and Role:
- Gaining firsthand experience in overseas development
- Gain skills valued by employers including learning to adapt your communication styles while working with people from different backgrounds and learning to respond with flexibility to new environments
- Get involved in planning and preparing for field work – work in the fields and immerse yourself in village life
- Work directly with women and children in villages in a hands-on experience
- Stay in the town of Jinja (Eastern Uganda) and travel to the field with our experienced local staff to assist with our early years education projects in rural deprived communities

Volunteer Tasks
Work with our expert local staff to support existing projects and travel daily to different villages to help set up new Play Schemes. You will be doing some, or all (depending on the length of time with us) of the following tasks:

- Capacity building and training for our in-country team
- Deliver skills workshops
Depending on your experience and skills we can use your expertise to help us develop and deliver new capacity building workshops for the mothers who run our Play Schemes. Workshops can be in topics such as health, wome

Highlights

Volunteers stay in our Lively Minds house, conveniently located upstairs to our office! The house has a kitchen so you can cook your own meals. There is electricity and running water. Our house is in a beautiful residential area overlooking Lake Victoria.

We can be flexible you can volunteer for 2 to 6 weeks at most times throughout the year. Depending on your skills and experience we might also be able to accommodate longer term Volunteering. Please contact us to discuss availability and timings.

Qualifications

- You must be able to speak English fluently
- You must be aged 18 or over
- We’re looking for team workers with excellent communication skills
- You’ll need to be flexible, able to adapt to working with different cultures and comfortable working in the field where you’ll be experiencing poverty first-hand
- You don’t need to have any previous experience – but if you have any working with children, teaching or other useful skills to enhance our projects and/or assist with training our local staff, then let us know!*
- Our trips attract students, recent graduates, teachers and other experienced professionals from ages 18 to 70. All welcome to apply!
