Volunteer in the special education area

Program Description

This is a school that provides special education needs and services to children who would otherwise have no opportunity for a healthy, happy and productive future.
The kids have bright minds and great intelligence; they just learn differently or need specialized attention to grow and thrive. There are no government schools or educational program for children like this in the Guatemalan educational system. Where these children would otherwise be lost, they provide the education and love they need to succeed in life.

What can the volunteer do?
- Teach English
- Cooking classes
- Help reading or with homework
- Assist the classrooms
- They also need; specialists, like speech therapists

Highlights

In this project, you will work from 8 am to 1 pm, so it's perfect to combine your volunteering with Spanish lessons in the afternoons, which is a nice way to improve your Spanish but also learn about the Guatemalan culture.

Qualifications

A beginner Spanish level is helpful (enough to understand the instructions). The director speaks 75% of English.
To improve your Spanish, we suggest online language lessons with a private Guatemalan teacher.
