Program Description

As a volunteer in the Philippines, you'll be able to immerse yourself in the rich culture of this beautiful island nation. The Philippines are home to over 100 million people who live on over 7,000 islands. The native Malay people are known for their welcoming attitudes and sense of camaraderie. Both Spanish and Chinese influences are very strong, cultivating a unique island culture. You can expect to feel relaxed and at home as the local people love to laugh and celebrate. Join in the fun and expect to learn a few words of Tagalog while you’re at it!

As a volunteer in the Philippines, you'll be able to work in the social work field, or on human rights issues, making your stay in this stunning country both exciting and meaningful.

United Planet partners with the International Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE) for its long-term programs. As a volunteer, you will be hosted by SPARK, ICYE’s partner organization in the Philippines.


Volunteer opportunities include:

Social work: Assist in implementing and organizing activities for a children's library, which provides accessible books and learning materials to underprivileged populations. Possible tasks include participating in a reading program,helping with English classes, and assisting with other workshops.
Human rights: Volunteer with organizations that advocate for housing rights for the urban poor. Tasks include housing rights education, advocacy, research, and helping with projects that provide clean water and sanitation.


18 – 35 years old (upper age requirement is flexible)
Citizen or resident of the United States or Canada
