Program Description

Volunteer in Ghana, which is one of Africa's most stable countries and is known for its rich history, welcoming people and its festive celebrations. Ghana’s economic development is due largely to its export of diamonds, gold, and cocoa. Ghanians come from many different backgrounds, and although the official language is English, more than 250 dialects are spoken across the country. With a tropical climate and natural beauty – from sandy beaches to dense rain forests – volunteers in Ghana enjoy all that this country and its people have to offer!

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work with children in a variety of different capacities - from teaching at local schools to working with different organizations focused on improving the livelihoods of Ghana's youth.

United Planet partners with International Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE) for long-term programs. As a volunteer, you will be hosted by ICYE Ghana, which is ICYE’s Ghana partner organization.

Highlights

Possible volunteer projects include:

Education: Volunteers assist teachers in local schools to enhance students' learning. Volunteers may also focus on projects that encourage at-risk youth to stay in school.
Social Work: Volunteers work with children of many different backgrounds. Tasks may include supervising play, organizing games and activities, and assisting with fundraising efforts of the organizations.

Qualifications

Between 18 - 30 years old
Citizen or resident of the United States or Canada
