Volunteer in a retirement home

Program Description

This is a retirement home in Quetzaltenango where about 35 elderly women live permanently. The retirement home provides the women with several services, all free of charges, such as a place to live, meals, clothing, medical treatment, and physiotherapy. But most of all, this is a place where the women have found their home, as some of them are abandoned by their family members.

The volunteer can:
- help in caring the women in their daily needs, such as bathing, feeding, and taking care of their personal hygiene.
- Assist recreational & cultural activities
- Helping with simple medical tasks such as measuring blood pressure & sugar level, administer medication or provide physiotherapy

Highlights

In this project, you will work every morning and afternoons are optional, so it's perfect to combine your volunteering with Spanish lessons in the afternoons, which is a nice way to improve your Spanish but also learn about the Guatemalan culture.

Qualifications

A beginner Spanish level is helpful (enough to understand the instructions).
To improve your Spanish, we suggest online language lessons with a private Guatemalan teacher.
