Program Description
VIN’s mission is to empower rural and marginalised communities through basic education. Become a volunteer with VIN and be a part of one of our many projects including Cultural Immersion and Teaching, Sports Volunteering, Yoga Volunteering, Teaching the Deaf, Creative Expression: Arts and Crafts, Computer Science, Teacher Development, English at a Community School, and English at a Buddhist Monastery and Nunnery.
People all across the globe should have access to the crucial human right of education. Nepal faces issues of gender discrimination and poverty so that almost half of the entire population struggles to gain basic literacy. Nepal has a literacy rate that is below 60%. Nepalese women struggle further since this is a patriarchal society that bars education and many are poverty-stricken.
Discrimination and poverty run free in underprivileged rural communities and so VIN has worked with the Jitpurphedi community in order to build up the local community. This project has been in place since 2007 and VIN is currently launching new projects in Okhaldhunga, our next community to focus on.
VIN has launched a variety of initiatives that foster education in marginalised groups and the local community. Volunteers will be able to help educate local instructors who are often unqualified as well as to increase the level of IT understanding in local classrooms. Teach English in Buddhist nunneries and monasteries as you engage in a cultural exchange. Immerse yourself in the practices of those who dedicate their live to Buddhism or you can also work with those who are deaf.
We are looking for an open-minded nature and a person who is flexible and energetic. Be a part of local Nepali culture and experience life in a host home or amongst monks and nuns. Be challenged and leave with the pride at the community you have forged and the difference you made.
