Program Description
Take the opportunity to work and live in Nepal while making real impacts on education and learning of local children. The rural areas rely heavily on rote learning and suffer from lack of transportation and an underdeveloped infrastructure. There has been a mass migration from the rural regions to large cities and so there is a lack of educated young individuals.
Rural schools do not have areas to practice or produce educational activities or creative ways to reinforce learning. Many of the students are from nearby farming communities.
We do not require professionals like engineers or doctors because any individual’s interests and skills will benefit these children. We expect volunteers to instruct English, but we also encourage volunteers to introduce other subjects that align with individual interests including health, painting, drama, music, and sports.
Several schools across parts of Nepal including western Nepal, Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lamjung, and Bardia are affiliated with Bardia Jungle Cottage (BJC). We work to improve learning and teaching methods, psychological development, extracurricular activities, and English skills.
The team at BJC believes that welcoming international volunteers help to promote the local communities, students, and teachers though the exchange of skills and knowledge.
No specific qualifications are necessary for this program. We welcome all areas of experience and skills. Volunteers will benefit by learning about Nepalese cultu
