Teach in Tanzania

Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

Volunteers have the opportunity to teach English, activities, songs, games, arts and crafts, maths, science, social studies, and Physical Education to children in English Medium Nursery and Primary schools in Arusha and it's surrounding areas.

Schools start at 8:30am and classes run until 3pm, with many offering tuition after school. Volunteers arrive at the beginning of the teaching day and it is recommended they spend their placement in the one class as this allows the volunteer and students to develop a bond and really make the most of their placement and teaching time.

Volunteers will provide support to the class teacher, assisting with lesson plan development and implementation, providing one-on-one support for students that are a little behind in the class and promoting interactive learning through the sharing of ideas.

With limited resources and very old fashioned teaching styles, learning in a Tanzanian school environment comes with quite a few challenges however with an assertive attitude and proactive mindset volunteers can have a very tangible impact during the time of their placement.

Highlights

Volunteering in a school in Tanzania is a challenging and very rewarding way to gain insight into another culture whilst achieving something meaningful during your travels. Far more than what volunteers stand to give is the personal growth they will experience incidentally to their volunteer program. Tanzania is a country where the warmth of the people will leave an impressionable impact and offers some of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes in the world. From Kilimanjaro, otherwise know as the 'Roof of Africa' to the sweeping plains of the Serengeti and across the Indian Ocean to the white sands of Zanzibar, Tanzania is never shy of an Adventure to offer.

Qualifications

Volunteers do not need to have specific qualifications to participate in a Teaching Volunteer placement. It is however recommended that those volunteers without qualifications carry out some research on activities, games, songs and lessons they can introduce in the classroom. TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) courses can also be beneficial for volunteers looking to really maximise their teaching experience.
