We are looking for caring and enthusiastic people with a passion for helping others to support at the Casa Hogar Torre Fuerte girls' home in Arequipa, southern Peru.
The Casa Hogar Torre Fuerte is a Christian home for girls and young women who have been removed from their families due to abandonment or abuse. It is based just outside of Arequipa, about a 40 minute bus ride from the city center. There are generally between 20 and 30 girls living there at any one time aged from 3 to 18 years. The state sends girls to the Casa Hogar, but provides very little financial assistance, which is why volunteer support is needed. As a member of the team at the Torre Fuerte, you will work alongside local staff to support the girls in their care.
Volunteer responsibilities include:
- Homework help
- Domestic tasks as necessary
- Playing with the girls
- Contributing towards a safe and stable home environment
- You are also welcome to get involved with mini-projects and training, dependent on your skills and experience
We ask that those applying for this role dedicate a minimum of two weeks, but we strongly encourage volunteers to stay at least four weeks. There is no maximum volunteer period - the more time that volunteers are able to commit to the girls, the better. Please note that due to the nature of the project, there is limited availability for male applicants.
