Program Description

As a volunteer with Shamwari Game Reserve, you will be able to work with big game conversation efforts in an impressive 25,000 hectare Big Five Reserve.

Wildlife conservation volunteers will assist with monitoring game, help with duties at the Born Free big cat sanctuary, caring for orphaned animals at the wildlife rehabilitation and many other fascinating activities.

- Be a part of the team at Shamwari Game Reserve and work with Africa's Big Five.
- Monitor game to aid in checking on the ecological balance in the Game Reserve.
- Track and observe predators (Lions and Leopards) and large herbivores (Rhinos and Elephants).
- Place camera traps and participate in anti-poaching night drives.
- Work as a team with conservationists and participate in fascinating lectures and talks.
- Help the community with a variety of projects including painting classrooms and building jungle gyms.
- Alien Plant Control

There is also a possibility for volunteers to work at the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary.

Wildlife conservation volunteers can help with current short-and-long-term projects. However, wildlife is unpredictable and so there is no guarantee for what kind of project you will be placed on during your time as a volunteer.

Volunteering with the Shamwari Game Reserve is an amazing opportunity to work directly with conservation efforts on a Big Five Game Reserve.
As a volunteer, you will experience a wide range of activities and have great hands-on fieldwork.
This will build a valuable foundation of knowledge for working with conservation institutes.
