Osteopathy Elective in Hyderabad, India

Program Description

Dedicate your time and effort during your medical elective to help facilitate the introduction of osteopathy treatment in a learning centre for children with autism in Hyderabad.
Disability care in India is still constraint by institutional shortcomings, leading to the lack of support for disabled children and their families. With little information and support available, families are often left alone in their struggles. Inspiring individuals have taken on the task to change that, and our partner organisation is a pioneer in this line of work.
Due to the fact that osteopathy qualifications are not offered in India, the staff at the learning centre has not had the chance to familiarise themselves with the treatments and benefits of such practice. Your skills and knowledge are therefore invaluable to our partner. Throughout your elective, you will have the chance to work directly with the children, whilst also accompanying staff on their learning journey. You will be involved in the development and implementation of staff training sessions, both theoretical and hands-on. Similar support will be provided to parents and teachers, to ensure the alignment of treatment at the centre, at home, and at school.
In exchange, you will be able to experience disability care in a completely new setting and learn from inspiring individuals who are carrying out pioneering work in their field in India.

Qualifications

The ideal volunteer is currently studying or has recently graduated from a BA/Masters in Osteopathy.
