Occupational Therapy - Professional Placement in India

Children with disabilities face many challenges in India, as the institutional environment does not provide the necessary assistance to them and their families. Lack of information and persisting stigma around disability often make it difficult for parents to seek help and provide the right support at home. To ensure children with autism receive treatment and support, our partner organisation has opened a learning centre currently holding 80 children.

On this program, you will be able to share your skills and facilitate the learning of new and improved methods in occupational therapy, directly impacting the live of the children at the centre. The major focus of the placement is collaborating with therapists, revising and facilitating learning-based workshops, as well as hands-on demonstrations of modern methods and techniques of occupational therapy. You will also conduct training for teachers and parents, so that they get a better understanding of the disability of their child.

By combining your professional skills and experience with the contextual knowledge of the staff, you will have direct impact on the best treatment methods for the children. Being an integral part of the team, you will develop and expand cross-cultural working skills, and gain a different perspective of your field.
