Program Description

Share your skills in a rural healthcare clinic and work closely with healthcare workers to increase the impact of their work.

In India, one of the greatest reinforcements of poverty is the lack of access to necessary health care. Rural populations are especially effected. Our partner organisation has therefore set up two clinics practicing preventative and curative healthcare. They are looking for support with training and skill-development of their staff. The skills and knowledge you will share on this placement will help take their efforts to the next level and make an even greater impact in the community.

It will be your responsibility to work closely with healthcare workers, providing training in the following areas: how to correctly take blood and urine samples, safe injections, hygiene, disposal of waste material and counselling. You'll also be involved in training them to screen patients before they see paramedics.
By exchanging experiences and skills with local staff you will gain a new perspective of your profession, and develop your problem-solving and cross-cultural working skills. Throughout the process of learning new skills, you'll also have the opportunity to gain insights into rural and urban life in India, not as a tourist but as a local.

The ideal volunteer has completed her/his nursing qualifications as well as 2+ years of practical experience.
