Program Description
In 2010, a group of recent psychology graduates, led by Lucy Nightingale, decided to put their degrees to good use and journeyed to Sri Lanka, where the resources for those living with mental illness and residing in psychiatric facilities are scarce. Equipped with experience and optimism, these intrepid adventurers joined forces with two incredibly insightful and dedicated Sri Lankan youth workers Mr Neil & Yasintha and together they founded SLV.Global and our Mental Health Placements were born.
Recently we've extended our reach to include Bali. Our aim is to continue to focus on global mental health by providing volunteers the chance to gain much desired psychology work experience in various communities that need extra support. Volunteers on all of our placements have the opportunity to learn from local professionals to increase their knowledge and enhance their skill sets whilst being immersed in cultures as warm and exciting as the countries themselves.

Highlights
As a volunteer, your weeks are jam packed with projects from Monday to Friday, including working within a psychiatric facility, teaching English in the community and working with service users with special needs. However, you will have the opportunity to travel around Sri Lanka or Bali during the weekends. This gives you time to unwind by the beach or to climb a mountain - whatever floats your white water raft! You will get the chance to experience what working in a Psychiatric Facility feels like in another country, all the while getting your master's in adventure.Qualifications
To qualify for the Mental Health placement in both Sri Lanka and Bali, volunteers will be required to have done hands on experience within a Mental Health setting or have worked with individuals with special needs. Those who do not have the previous experience are welcome to apply for our Level One Mental Health placement in Sri Lanka.Upon completion, volunteers will be rewarded with a certificate attesting their participation and confirming the skills gained whilst on placement.
