Medical Elective in Hyderabad, India

This elective exposes you to the two realities of rural and urban modern-day India. You will have the opportunity to spend your weekdays practicing medicine in the rural health clinics, and enjoy the buzzing city of Hyderabad on weekends. As a part of a local initiative bringing accessible healthcare to rural communities in South India, you have the chance to gain real understanding of practical medicine in a low income setting and expand your knowledge of basic clinical medicine. Rather than reading about it in books, you will be observe and practice in the field.
Due to lack of information, absence of infrastructure and inability to pay many of the most vulnerable communities in rural India cannot access healthcare. Our partner organisation has set up two local clinics to provide preventive and curative healthcare.
As a medical elective volunteer, you will be working with the local team, shadowing key medical staff and assisting in the diagnosis and care of patients. You will also be working with the health educator, to develop health education materials for school children.
This is a fantastic opportunity to put your knowledge and skills to use, and get real experience under you belt. You will not only expand on your medical knowledge and skills, but also develop cross-cultural working and problem-solving skills.
