Learn Spanish and Volunteer in Costa Rica

Spanish by the River in Turrialba gives you the possibility to combine your volunteer work with Spanish classes and accommodation in our hostel or in a local host family. We provide a wide range of options for volunteering in Turrialba and the best part is that we don´t charge extra for the volunteer work! We prefer that you enroll in our Spanish classes or stay in our accommodation.

For us it is very important to be able to give something back to the local community, for example by working with local families to host our students. Another important part of this is the volunteer work in which many of our students participate. In Turrialba, we offer the following free volunteer opportunities:

- Primary schools
- Children’s Home
- Retirement Home
- Museum
- Library
- CAIPAD (Centre for disabled adults)
- CATIE - Tropical Agriculture (1 month minimum)

Most volunteer options are available the entire year, although you should take into consideration the school holidays if you want to work in a school. When starting your volunteer work, a member of our staff will introduce you at the organization and makes sure everything goes well.

Our goal is to offer an interesting place for our students to practice Spanish and at the same time help local organization with knowledge and extra hands. All the organizations we work with are always very happy to receive help!
