Volunteer at a large children’s center/orphanage in La Serena and help to provide kindergarten and nursery services. There are around 140 children who live in this center full time and many of them are orphans. This project requires a lot of enthusiasm since we have over 40 toddlers and babies and other children aged 2 to 4. We incorporate the community and families into this project, though many of the parents are very poor and so are unable to provide healthcare or adequate food. This is a support center, kindergarten, and day care.
Your duties include assisting staff with daily needs such as changing diapers, putting the children down to nap, clothing, bathing, and feeding.

For example, I would re-explain the grammar rules to them and give them examples in Spanish. I would also help the professor check the students' pronunciation. Everyone at the school was really nice to me, both professors and students. I really enjoyed the fact that the school has students from kindergarten up to high school and that you get to work with every level.
Otherwise, La Serena is a nice, quiet city. I enjoyed going to the beach on my free time and exploring the region on the weekend.
