Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

Volunteer near Xela and work with fellow volunteers in the small community of Xecanchavox. This program has run since 2009 and has since developed the local primary school. Volunteers will live in homestays while working on necessary community development projects and assisting with designing meaningful activities. Previous projects for Alternative Break include:

- Teaching the following subjects in the primary school: English, geography, environmental conservation, and dental hygiene.
- Building volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts as well as teaching the children how to play.
- Helping to beautify the community through projects such as planting trees and flowers, picking up trash, and painting.
- Helping to create organic farms.

Highlights

We seek to develop a thriving community centre that will help to reduce dropout rates for children by creating a library and workspace.

This project aims to:

- Build up cultural values among the local community through education

- Use technology to reduce the dropout rate by encouraging children to attend school.

- Create a safe space to teach about personal care, hygiene, healthcare, and labor rights.

- Develop programs for training teachers.

We are committed to ensuring that our volunteers are a part of the local community.
We promote education by reaching out to families within the community. This is an innovative project that will help to build up education within the local community through the maintenance of the community center.
Volunteers are crucial to this project since this is a prime opportunity for intercultural exchange.

Qualifications

There are no specific qualifications required to join our volunteer programs since the staff of Kamalbe will provide any necessary orientation and training to perform volunteer activities adequately.
