Program Description
South Africa has a lot to offer to its visitors. A plethora of different wildlife, gorgeous wide plains and pristine beaches are just a few reasons to book a trip to this fascinating country.
The Game Reserve Conservation offers the great opportunity to work closely with the African Big Five, which includes lions, buffalo, rhinoceros, leopards and elephants. Here these majestic animals are treated the way they deserve and they can find protection from the dangers they now have to face in the wild because of human intrusion. Additionally, an important part of this programme is to educate local communities and tourists about the serious issues and preventative measures regarding the South African wildlife.
Enthusiastic volunteers will find plenty of activities to help the animals at the centre. These include:
- Assisting at the Elephant Sanctuary
- Helping out with capturing game and tagging them
- Fencing and maintenance
- Caring for lion cubs
- Monitoring wild lions
- Surveying the tagged animals
- Educational wilderness walks
Another significant aspect of the project are the breeding centre for white lions (which are extinct in the wild) and the ‘re-wilding’ camp for lions, where sick or hurt lions are released back into the wild after being nursed back to health.
On the weekends volunteers will have the opportunity to visit the beautiful areas of Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay, and Knysna.
This unique and fascinating programme offers something for everyone who is even the slightest bit interested in helping animals and wants to experience South Africa!
