Program Description
Join our program situated in the Sierra Nevada mountains and Reno, Nevada and become an environmental intern. You will help out with environmental education for urban and forest interface. This program lasts from 2 to 6 months and will particularly focus on the fascinating ecology of Galena Creek Park.
Students and individuals can apply who have backgrounds in Ecology and Environmental Science.
You will be placed in the Galena Creek Recreation Area in western Nevada while experiencing the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Present and develop innovative programmes about the cultural resources and diversity of the Great Basin region, specifically ecosystems of the forest. As an intern, you will aid in preserving and appreciating all aspects of the park including resources and helping to give opportunities for park visitors to care for resources.
Responsibilities for this internship include:
• Present and develop innovative programs
• Conduct research independently using interviews, online resources, files, books, and records
• Assist with upkeep the center daily
• Any other requested responsibilities
Full utilities and housing are provided along with a weekly per diem of $100. These are 40 hour-a-week positions and include scheduled trips to scenic and cultural attractions once a month.

Highlights
Lodging and utilities are provided for free. The housing is situated around Reno, Nevada. ICVE housing provide amazing opportunities for recreation and exploration on Mount Rose, downtown Reno, and the University of Nevada.Housing features dormitory style rooms that contain many bunk beds, bathroom facilities, a kitchen, and shared living areas. Participants in this program will allow an immersive experience for individuals with cultures from across the globe.
With temperatures exceeding 100 Fahrenheit in the summers and mild winters of 45 Fahrenheit. There are four seasons, so you are sure to have diversity in temperature and season.
Qualifications
• Knowledge of biology, ecology and/or conservation is highly desirable;• Experience interacting with all ages in an educational setting is desirable;
• Motivated, self-starter who is detail oriented;
• Flexibility to handle competing and changing priorities;
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse public in a variety of forums;
• Ability to speak English conversationally; conversational ability in Spanish desirable but not required.
Furthermore, all interns are sponsored through the J-1 Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and must meet the following minimum requirements:
• Be currently enrolled in and pursuing studies at a foreign degree or certificate-granting post-secondary academic institution outside the United States, or;
• Have graduated from such an institution no more than 12 months prior to his or her exchange visitor program start date and;
• Possess a valid passport throughout any time spent in the United States.
