Program Description

**Information on the English Opens Doors Program**

We offer the English Opens Doors Programs which is dedicated to helping the youth of Chile for free. Volunteers will be able to impact the futures of these students by providing them with an opportunity to learn English while learning about different cultures around the world.

**Volunteer Responsibilities**

Volunteers will assist local Chilean teachers by teaching independent classes in public schools. There are volunteer placements all around Chile and classes are often students in 5th grade (aged 10-11) all the way to 12th grade (aged 17-18). Volunteers will be responsible for:

-Participating in Spelling Bee contests, Public Speaking drills, and English Camps, among other outreach programs
-Spending 24 hours each week teaching classes, and an additional 11 hours a week that is spent on directing lesson plans and extracurricular activities. Volunteers can develop their own individual activity
-Share own culture with students, thus broadening their worldview
-Helping students improve their listening and speaking abilities
-Motivating students to learn English

Highlights

Volunteers have an opportunity to gain valuable professional and personal experience by teaching in Chilean public school. While doing so, volunteers have the opportunity to live in parts of Chile where it would be very difficult to find a job as a foreigner, while learning about Chilean language, food, culture, and traditions by living with a Chilean host family.
