Program Description
**Information on the English Opens Doors Program**
We offer the English Opens Doors Programs which is dedicated to helping the youth of Chile for free. Volunteers will be able to impact the futures of these students by providing them with an opportunity to learn English while learning about different cultures around the world.
**Volunteer Responsibilities**
Volunteers will assist local Chilean teachers by teaching independent classes in public schools. There are volunteer placements all around Chile and classes are often students in 5th grade (aged 10-11) all the way to 12th grade (aged 17-18). Volunteers will be responsible for:
-Participating in Spelling Bee contests, Public Speaking drills, and English Camps, among other outreach programs
-Spending 24 hours each week teaching classes, and an additional 11 hours a week that is spent on directing lesson plans and extracurricular activities. Volunteers can develop their own individual activity
-Share own culture with students, thus broadening their worldview
-Helping students improve their listening and speaking abilities
-Motivating students to learn English

Highlights
Volunteers have an opportunity to gain valuable professional and personal experience by teaching in Chilean public school. While doing so, volunteers have the opportunity to live in parts of Chile where it would be very difficult to find a job as a foreigner, while learning about Chilean language, food, culture, and traditions by living with a Chilean host family.Qualifications
**Volunteers must**-Be a native or near-native English speaker.
-Have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and be between 21 and 35 years old.
-Be mentally and physically capable of teaching children.
-Be willing to dedicate their energy and time to teaching, and making students their priority.
-Have experience living or travelling in another country.
-Have an interest in Chilean culture and living in a developing country.
-Be highly committed, responsible, and flexible.
-Have access to sufficient funds in order to cover personal expenditures throughout the duration of the program.
-Assume the associated costs (transportation to consulate, cost of obtaining documents) of obtaining a Temporary Residence Visa before arriving in Chile. Direct visa fees from the consulate will be waived.
-Assume the cost of international transportation to Santiago according to the program start date.
Volunteer Types
What`s Included
-TEFL training specific to the volunteer context during a week-long orientation (food and accommodations provided).-Online Spanish course.
-A volunteer allowance of CLP 65,000 per month served (equivalent to CLP 2,167 per day) to reimburse local transportation or other costs related to teaching.
-Accommodations and meals with a host family.
-Health insurance (in-country).
-Pre-departure information and support.
-Airport transfers to accommodations upon arrival for volunteers who arrive on designated dates.
-Assistance registering the visa and obtaining a Chilean I.D. card.
-Round-trip transportation from Santiago to the regional placement site.
-In-country support from the National Volunteer Center as well as the Regional English Representative.
-Year-long volunteers receive a week of paid vacation, in addition to regular holidays.

Cost:
No participation fees, and visa fees are waived for volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for international transportation to Chile and personal/leisure expenses.
