Community Nutrition

Program Description

One of the ways Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV) reach out to rural communities is thru its Nutrition Projects. This is how we do our share in addressing some of the prevalent socio-economic issues in third world countries like the Philippines which is undernourishment, hunger and food security. Through the provision of nutritious meals to the malnourished preschool kids in the community and our kids under the Sponsorhip Program and by simultaneously educating the community through informative lectures on nutrition and basic hygiene, we are able to alleviate the living conditions of the less-privileged members of our community. The meals we provide are researched and nutritionally designed to ensure that each day the children receive adequate nutrients and comply with existing government supplementary feeding guidelines. They are handled by one of the VFV Community Program coordinators or Sponsorship Program coordinators with the help of our volunteers both local and international. The mothers of our kids under the program also take an active role in doing some of the tasks like food preparation. The education side of the project is intended for the community, the children themselves and the parents in particular.

Highlights

Get the chance to gain a life-changing volunteering experience by working for the welfare of the less-fortunate children. Thru the Nutrition Project, you'll get to plan and prepare nutritious meals for the kids while working closely with VFV staff , the kids' moms and the locals. You'll have the opportunity also to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and hygiene by conducting lectures and information campaigns with the kids and the locals regarding said subjects. We encourage you as well to initiate projects which can provide long-term solutions to malnutrition, hunger and food security.
