Cockering-up rescued wild animals

Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

Ecuador's rainforests are home to some of the world's most beautiful and exotic animal species. This has led to an increase in animal trafficking and the illegal smuggling.

The project takes place in sanctuaries for those mistreated animals, which are mostly in perilous conditions. Here they try to rescue, rehabilitate and in the best case release them to their natural habitats.

Animals that are most frequently brought to the rescue center are monkeys, parrots, turtles and jaguars.
The main priority at the center is animal welfare, that is why a typical average week for a volunteer involves cleaning cages and feeding the animals on a daily basis and if needed constructing and maintaining cages and enclosures.

From time to time and depending on your level, you will guide tourist groups through the rescue center. All activities are supervised by the center's technicians and workers. This gives volunteers the opportunity to learn new language skills and to get to know the local people.

Usually, you will work from Monday to Friday, 8am to 12 pm and 2:30pm to 5pm. But please keep in mind that in special situations volunteers should be flexible and lend a hand where needed.
