Cartagena Social Welfare Program

Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

Volunteer 25-30 minutes away from Cartagena’s downtown in the lovely beach area of La Boquilla. Much of the local population is fishermen who reside in homes that are often basic. We have developed a multi-functioning youth center that provides a space for children to eat, play, and study. There are over 300 youth/children who come daily and they are provided with a safe space, monthly health checks, primary school classes, kindergarten, and free lunches. Our staff is working to prevent the child trafficking that occurs in the sex trade as a result of poor regions.

As a volunteer with this program, you will support all childcare needs, provide fascinating conversation, encourage education, and act as a tutor. We have children from the center who are toddlers all the way to teens around 15 years old. You will help in the kitchens, play in the playground, plan pre-school games and English lessons, and assist with feeding. We specifically focus on female vocational training, empowerment lectures, hygiene and health talks, and health education.

*The center closes from June 25 to July 15.
