Program Description
Spend time working with elephants and their handlers in their day to day activities. You'll help the mahouts (elephant handlers) with their daily routines. This includes activities like feeding the elephants, cleaning and bathing the elephants and cleaning the elephant enclosures.
This can be a life-changing experience, as the Elephants are very family orientated and the young ones love fun.
The majority of your volunteering work will be assisting the mahouts with their day-to-day aspects of caring for and maintaining the comfort of the elephants. This will include:
Cleaning and bathing the elephants
Walking them through the forest to forage
Mucking out the elephant enclosures
Helping to collect the food from the forest for the elephants
Helping to feed them.
You will also learn about elephants and learn some of elephant commands the mahout’s use on a regular basis.
There may also be the opportunity to do other things, such as some maintenance and renovation work, etc., but that will be subject to the needs that arise during the time that you're there.
